Ross Nielson

Ross Nielson is the founder and Managing Director of Ross Nielson Properties. He maintains overall responsibility for the performance and strategic development of the firm. Under his guidance the firm has grown to be the leading private property investment firm in the city, and Ross has become one of the property industries leaders.

Ross has a strong affinity with the city of Brisbane, and through his company he continues to make a significant impact on its style and character. A strong believer in the importance of social infrastructure supporting the built environment in which his firm operates, Ross demonstrated this via providing significant space within the recent Santos Place development for the creation of a public access laneway incorporating dining and entertaining options to increase the amenity of the precinct surrounding the building.

Ross is active in a number of organisations that improve the social fabric of the city including his being State Chapter Chair, and national board member for the Australian business arts Foundation; a member of the Commissioners Council for the Venice Biennale; support for a variety of local charities, and providing direct endorsement for a variety of state and local government promotional activities. Ross is also the current Brisbane Lord Mayors 'Business Person of the Year'.

Ross holds a Bachelor of Business degree, has studied at the Harvard Business School, and is an active member of the Young Presidents Organisation and World Presidents Organisation.

Darren McCosker

General Manager Corporate – Joined 2007 – 7 years in current position

Darren McCosker joined Nielson Properties with the brief to focus on the long term development of the business sustainability and continue improving the corporate functions of the business. As well as incubating new business oportunities.

Darren draws on General Managerial roles in the Employment and Hospitality sectors, demonstrating a track record of driving business through major transition periods, to ensure their longer term financial viability. Having being an office bearer and active participant in industry bodies ranging from the construction, infrastructure, marine, education and hospitality industries Darren draws on a breadth of industry experience that assists in identifying and integrating best practice in business operations.

Darren holds an MBA from The Macquarie Graduate School of Management (MGSM) and maintains an active interest in the evolution of industry and business best practice, donating time to a variety of organisations in assisting them achieve their goals.

Peter Green

General Manager – Development – Joined 1999 – 10 Years in current role

Peter Green joined Nielson Properties as a Development Manager, and assumed the Divisions General Managers role in 2006.

Leading the team that has refurbished and developed $500m in assets over the last five years, Peter draws on extensive Development and Project management capabilities. Peter played the leading role in the development, tenant attraction and securing, and sale process for our landmark Santos Place development. His hands on experience in delivering this asset as the nation’s largest 6 star environmentally rated building, and driving the sales campaign that delivered a record post GFC property transaction has Peter recognised as one of the city’s leading property professionals.

With a Bachelor of Applied Science majoring in Construction Management Peter provides an important strength in the implementation of our investment strategy.

Bree Van Gaal

Manager Investment (Portfolio Manager) – joined 2003 – 6 years in current role

Bree Van Gaal joined Nielson Properties as an Assistant Asset manager, and has forged a career successfully managing the operations of commercial office investments. Managing a team of 4, Bree is accountable for formulating and implementing strategic plans for the portfolios of our investment clients. As part of this management Bree has overseen Santos Place achieve its five-star NABERS rating and has commenced an upgrade of existing assets environmental performance, which has yielded five and six-star ratings to date.

Since 2008 Bree has been dealing extensively in senior and mezzanine debt facilities including the relocation of $310,000,000 of debt during 2009/10. She also conducts all long term cash-flow modeling for asset value maximization and target purchase due diligence.

Bree has been involved in real estate her entire working career and was Queensland’s youngest licensed real estate agent in the state when certified in 1996. She also holds a Graduate Diploma in Commercial Asset Management.
